Good Morning! It's been a rough year for Tesla, and yesterday the company's stock took another nosedive after Elon Musk offloaded $3.6 billion worth of shares. Investment bankers aren't exactly popping champagne bottles over their bonuses this year, with reports that Goldman Sachs is considering a massive 40% cut in bonuses.

ECB raised rates in response to ongoing inflation in Europe, sending stocks tumbling - yesterday was the worst day for the markets in three months. But there's some good news on the inflation front in the U.S. - rents actually dropped at the fastest rate in 7 years last month, indicating that inflation might be easing up.

1. Story of the Day: Bleisure Travelers

The pandemic didn’t just change how we work - it also changed where and how we travel for work.  With corporate travel nowhere near pre-pandemic levels, you’d expect airlines to still be struggling with empty flights and sad peanuts. But luckily a breed of travelers the - bleisure passengers - are saving the airline industry one upgraded seat at a time.

These savvy travelers are combining work and pleasure on their trips, often tacking on a long weekend of remote work to their travels. While these travelers don’t necessarily have meetings to attend or clients to golf with, they’re sure spending like it. This has been a lifesaver for airlines, who are seeing increased bookings on Tuesdays and Wednesdays - days that used to be lower demand for flying.

And, just like their corporate counterparts, bleisure travelers are splurging on upgrades like extra legroom and pre-flight perks. Since economy fares are low-margin, upgrades are the real rainmaker for airlines. American Airlines says that half of its revenue now comes from these pleasure-seeking bleisure travelers.

Takeaway: Many doubted the airline industry would make a profitability comeback so fast. Pre-pandemic, while corporate travelers made up just 12% of airlines’ passengers, they generated half the industry’s profits. Now, airlines see the almost exact same trend play out with ‘bleisure travelers’. So if you’re debating whether to work remotely from Ibiza, just remember - you’re helping save the airline industry in the process.

7. Daily Acumen: Sleep

“Going outdoors more during the day might lead to slipping into sleep more easily during the night, according to a new study that found a relationship between the seasons and shifts in sleeping patterns.

While the study found the number of hours of slumber banked across summer, fall, winter, and spring were similar, in the winter months, research participants went to sleep later in the evening and woke up later in the morning.

The team behind the new study thinks that less light exposure during the day can be responsible for shifts in our body clock that then mean we're less ready for sleep when night comes around.

What this study shows is that we need to get out – even for a little while and especially in the morning – to get that natural light exposure. In the evening, minimize screen time and artificial lighting to help us fall asleep."
